Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Diesel Mechanic

You’ll be hands-on with massive tractors and harvesters, fixing and maintaining the machines that farmers rely on in the workshop and sometimes out in the field. Core Tasks

  • Diagnose faults, dismantle and repair diesel engines, transmissions, and mechanical parts.
  • Complete scheduled repairs including component change-outs and carry out preventative maintenance.
  • Perform inspections to assess and scope defects accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance records.
  • Provide on-site repairs and field servicing.
  • Ensure machinery complies with safety and operational standards.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in optimal working condition.

Study Pathway / Education Providers

A Certificate III usually completed as an apprenticeship, or a Certificate IV along with at least 3 years of relevant experience is needed. Many workers leave school at Year 10, 11 or 12 to start their apprenticeship. An apprenticeship pathway provides on-the-job training in addition to a certification.
