Service Technician / Servicing Mechanic / Service Manager

As a Service Technician, you’ll be making sure that the most advanced machinery on the farm stays in top shape. Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of high-tech equipment, including tractors, harvesters, and other machinery you are not just a mechanic – you’re the go-to person farmers rely on to keep things moving. If you love working with your hands and solving problems, this job is a perfect career choice for you.

Work your way up to becoming a Manager and you’ll then lead a team to keep farms working efficiently and help them stay ahead of the game. Managers are typically also responsible for parts ordering, inventory management, and workshop operations.

Core Tasks

  • Inspect, diagnose, service, and perform repairs and maintenance on advanced farm machinery.
  • Attend to breakdowns in the field with a good level of fault-finding skills.
  • Provide routine servicing to keep equipment running efficiently.
  • Train operators on proper machine care and usage.
  • Keep detailed records of repairs and servicing.

Study Pathway / Education Providers

A Certificate III usually completed as an apprenticeship, or a Certificate IV along with at least 3 years of relevant experience is needed. Many workers leave school at Year 10, 11 or 12 to start their apprenticeship. An apprenticeship pathway provides on-the-job training in addition to a certification.
